Deadline Approaching For 2016-17 SMSF Annual Returns

Now is the time to be preparing your 2016-17 self-managed super fund (SMSF) annual return.

In January 2018, we announced an extension to the lodgment due date for 2016-17 SMSF annual returns. The extended due date of 30 June 2018 falls on a Saturday, so lodgment can be made on the next business day, Monday 2 July 2018, without penalty.

This extension also applies to reporting the 30 June 2017 value of any retirement phase income stream to the ATO using the transfer balance account report (TBAR).

  • make sure your SMSF professional has all the right records

  • if eligible, this is the last chance to elect for transitional CGT relief

  • you need to engage a licensed SMSF auditor for your SMSF annual audit.
